Gov. Ann Richards and State Comptroller John Sharp will visit the University of Houston – Victoria and O’Connor Elementary School Friday to see and hear about a new concept for teaching math.

They will be briefed on “Move It Math,” a teaching concept developed by UHV Associate Professor Paul J. Shoecraft, and will then see the concept demonstrated by kindergarten and first grade students in the classroom.

Richards and Sharp, who will be traveling separately, will be accompanied by Mannie Justiz of Austin, dean of the University of Texas’ School of Education; Bonnie Floyd, chairman of the Creative Learning Center in Dallas; Cynthia Canevaro of EDS Corp. in Dallas; Joe Ramsey of Southwestern Bell Telephone in Dallas; Mike Lunsford of Dallas, representing Mary Kay Cosmetics’ Adopt-a-School program; and Ralph Pahel, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Dallas.
