The first sets of Fair Lands blocks were made of wood: walnut, a dark wood, for Two Land and maple, a light wood, for Three Land. These are the blocks shown in the Fair Trades pictures. They were a woodcutter’s nightmare to make because they had to be cut to within 1/1000 of an inch of the specifications to accurately show wood-for-wood trades. Once demand for the blocks merited it, they were made of plastic as shown for Three Land. This solved the problem of quality control and allowed having the blocks scored to denote the land or base they represented.
